Treatment of diabetes

Treatment of diabetes could be done through two methods insulin injection and oral pills. Insulin injections are always used in treating diabetes type one where the insulin is not secreted or not secreted in a sufficient amount. Oral pills are always used with type two diabetes where the insulin is secreted sufficiently but the cells cannot intake the sugar inside to combust it into energy causing the blood glucose level to elevate.

There are different types of insulin treatment. The first type is the rapid acting insulin and this one is used directly after the meal to act directly on the just taken sugar. This should be done with every meal. The second insulin type is the short acting one. This type has a longer period of action and it could be injected 10 minutes before the meal. The intermediate acting insulin is reaches the peak slower but it lasts for longer time. The long acting insulin is no different from the pattern it also acts for a longer time and it could be given once or twice per day.

There could be a combination between the long acting insulin injection and a short acting or rapid acting one to guarantee full coverage. Your doctor will help you to determine the right insulin shot that suits you.
