How to diagnose diabetes?

Diabetes is considered one of the silent killer diseases that affect the global population; it can affect virtually any body regardless of age, sex or ethnic group. Diabetes is considered the main gate for other more serious complications that may affect the diabetic patient so, early diagnosis is very important to avoid these complications.

There are several lab tests that you can undertake just to make sure whether you have diabetes or not. These tests should be performed in a reputable lab to guarantee the results. The first test is the fasting blood glucose test. In this test the doctor tends to measure the blood glucose level before you eat anything and for that reason you have to stop eating anything for at least eight hours before you take this test. In this test the blood will be drawn by a syringe and the lab technician will perform the proper steps to find out the particular level of your blood glucose. The normal result is between 70 and 100 milligrams per deciliter. Even though your blood glucose may appear normal but you still need to perform further tests just to make sure you are diabetes free.

Casual blood sugar is the second part of the fasting blood sugar test. After resuming eating, you need to go through the same steps to measure your blood glucose level. The result should read something around 200 milligrams per deciliter to be normal. If the result is significantly higher than this number then you are considered a diabetic patient.
